I've talked multiple times about my morning routine and how it has helped me grow, both personally and professionally. It's one of my top habits for a productive and fulfilling day.
Getting up early starts with getting a good sleep with good pre-sleep ritual.
So, I want to share my pre-sleep ritual, as it forms the foundation of my morning routine. Many of us overlook or underestimate the importance of this ritual, but if executed correctly, it can help you:
Sleep better
Feel energized in the morning
Develop a positive morning mindset
Have happy and productive day
I have a number of evening activities that help me rest, recharge and prepare strong for the next day.
Taking a shower (or wash my face and feet) before bed.
Brush my teeth, clean my tongue, and floss.
I have a fixed bedtime (10pm) and try to get into bed 30 minutes before.
Turn off or dim all the lights in the house 60 minutes before.
Pick out my clothes and accessories for the next day and pack or arrange what I’ll need in the morning (AirPods, charger, metro card).
10% headstart — This is my favorite hack. As part of my pre-sleep ritual, I'll start taking few actions related to my morning goals. For example:
I'll fill the water and put a filter in my coffee machine.
I'll choose and download the podcast or audiobook I'll listen to on my morning walk.
I reflect (by ratting) each day based on how productive and satisfying it was. I rate my day for Great, Good, Okay, Bad, or Horrible. This helps me to live more intentionally.
I write three wins/happy moments of the day in my digital journal. It make me feel and sleep better.
Read a few pages of a spiritual book.
If my heart and mind are still racing, I'll sometimes do 2-3 minutes of breath meditation.
Feel free to try what works for you. Your ritual can be different then mine. But I highly encourage to have a pre-sleep ritual.
Key takeaway: A pre-sleep ritual is essential for a good night's sleep and a successful next day. The success of the day will depend on how well you prepare and rest the day before.
